As to your first point, you are likely right about Sanji not speaking out and encouraging them since he's generally not the type to do that anyway. And yeah, maybe they weren't vying for the top--

Though with the repeated emphasis on "You're gunning after Owner Zeff's position" I really do think they were worried that Sanji would take the top himself and roust Zeff somehow. This was before they knew about his backstory however.

Also to clarify I mean, he does belong in a sense and there is a lot of sniping at each other but they do care for each other.

However, Sanji is not part of the in-group of cooks. At least not that we've seen. They like and respect him--even more so now that they actually understand what drives his character--

But he's not really part of their clique, if you know what I mean. They're a lot older for one and don't really understand Sanji for another...but they think they do. That's not to say that they don't care for him but he's not really a part of the inner circle but standing outside of it. Zeff isn't really part of the inner circle either because he is the boss.

Also it's not just all on them but Sanji seems to hold himself apart, too. I think it's because emoting is not easy and maintaining this presentation of a tough guy with no shits given and it's hard to break out of that mold. The culture of the Baratie Cooks revolve around this idea of 'tough guys don't have gooshy emotions'.

As to your second point, we can't really know unless he says one way or the other-- but I don't think that's necessarily the case. Killing is inherit in cooking, especially if you're cooking for a meat hog like Luffy. Sanji likely does his own butchering-- especially of fish and other sea creatures or whatever else they find on the islands. Like in Little Garden, they have to kill the dinosaurs they capture and it's up to Sanji to butcher them with maybe some help. Personally, I don't think that killing has much to do with it.

Also, and again, it's all how you view these sort of things, but Sanji to me is not really the kind of person who views violence as a taint. Especially not since he would rather kick someone out of the way than tell them to use. Violence is used to assert his place in the pecking order, to vent his own frustration, and a myriad of other reasons.

As to your third point, I agree. Sanji can keep a cool head in bad situations. And I have ideas about that which may be in conflict with yours but... I am going to hold off with saying them because I think I have to wait until I get to certain places before I can make a decision on them. Also Sanji as he's presented now is different from who how he's presented in future chapters because changes and character growth and etc. But, as I said, we'll ride that sea train when we come to it.

I'm glad that helped a bit! Gin is such an interesting character-- Much more interesting than even I realized on the outset. XD
